From the Principal

Welcome(s)
Over the past fortnight, our College has fully come to life for 2025, with the return of all staff and students. I extend a warm welcome to all of our community for 2025, particularly the students, staff and families who are joining the 快播 community for the first time. Our partnership with families is critical to the care we have in common for the wellbeing and learning growth of our students, and it has been wonderful to see so many parents and guardians attending the recent Years 7 - 11 Information evenings.
Key communications were emailed to families on both Thursday 23 January and on Tuesday 28 January, with a reminder about the adjusted Mobile Devices policy included. We urge families to access this information if you have not already done so.

High Expectations and Exceeding Potential
I had the pleasure of addressing a number of the student Year Level welcome assemblies and parent information evenings across the last week. Each year level was exhorted to start the year positively. As we continue to embed our focus on High Expectations, Respect, Inclusivity and Spirit, in 2025 we are using the lens of the following quote:
鈥淲e come to the learning with the prior skills, will and a sense of thrill for learning. 鈥he prime purpose of education is to help students exceed what they think is their potential鈥 (Hattie & Zierer, 2018)
We wish all students well for a positive and successful 2025, as we work together as staff, students and families to help students to 鈥榚xceed what they think is their potential鈥.
Preparations for 2025
On behalf of the College, I thank the many staff who have been involved in preparing our campus to be the best learning environment for our students in 2025. The physical environment and facilities are looking refreshed, with new touch-screen displays in every classroom of the I-building to upgrade technology for learning for Senior Years and the science labs among the improvements.
Teachers and learning support staff have also been preparing for student return, spending much of the first two days examining student learning profiles to best prepare for their 2025 classes.
Vertical Pastoral system
In 2023, one of the 快播 CIS project groups began investigating pastoral structures that would best serve 快播 College. In 2024, they presented their findings and recommendation to the 快播 Leadership Team that 快播 move to a vertical house system. Vertical pastoral systems have become more common since the early 2000s, with a breadth of research indicating the benefits for student sense of belonging, cross-year level peer relationships, decreasing bullying, and particularly for family connectivity with school to support student learning and wellbeing. Learning global expert provides a number of key research links, with the 鈥榮ense of family鈥 that vertical systems provide having a demonstrable positive impact on student learning.
Staff consultation across 2023-24 will be expanded to include students and families across 2025 as we plan for the best systems and structures to support implementing a vertical pastoral system in 2026. This transition has begun by expanding the strengths of our current house system with the appointments of Year 12 House captains for Dominic, MacKillop & Rice, and a whole-school Athletics carnival to occur in March. Stay tuned for more details and the opportunity for your voice to shape this exciting new direction to care for our students鈥 wellbeing and enhance their learning.
